LOOK AND CRY / 2022

site-specific installation, onion petals, onion juice
Atelier of the Academy of Arts Dresden

This project is an attempt to embody feeling not only in visual expression but also in smell, as well as to reflect on personal and collective experiences after February 24.

The work consists of 1,689 transparent onion petals extracted from in-between of onion layers that form a 4-meter iris. A silent eye looks into the building and, dissolving, becomes part of the peaceful garden landscape at the Dresden Academy of Arts. The juice was squeezed from the remains of the onion and served at the opening either pure or mixed with vodka, which is one of the recipes of Russian traditional medicine.
