THIRD HAND SPELL / 2018

Metal, plastic, mirror foil

«Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.» Arthur C. Clarke

Today, the complexity of technology can be compared with the complexity of the human body. I create a magic wand from a surgical instrument polishing it until all functional details disappear. Surgical instruments resemble lifesaver wands, they are addressed to prolongation of life, and improvement of the appearance or functional characteristics of the body. The surgeon is like a magician or chief editor. As an editor, he puts his signature under the work and his pen for special occasions is not a working tool, but jewelry for special events. «Third hand» is the name of the monopod, which pretends to be a mechanical arm of a robot waving a sparkling magic wand, but in fact is a selfie stick.
